Creative Europe's MEDIA sub-programme is a European Commission support tool for the European film and audiovisual industry

About the MEDIA Sub-programme

MEDIA has two key priorities:

  • To increase the capacity of the audiovisual sector;
  • To promote transnational circulation;

In order to help strengthen the capacity of the audiovisual sector, MEDIA has the following objectives:

  • To facilitate the acquisition of skills and create networks by specifically encouraging the use of digital technologies to ensure adaptation to market developments;
  • To increase the creative capacity of audiovisual operators in relation to their work with potential for marketing in Europe and beyond and to facilitate European and international co-productions, including television broadcasting;
  • To stimulate interaction between the different companies in order to facilitate audiovisual operators' access to the markets and business tools to increase the visibility of their projects in European and international markets.

With regard to the promotion of transnational circulation, MEDIA has the following objectives:

  • To aid film distribution through transnational activities such as marketing, promotion, distribution and exhibition of audiovisual projects;
  • To support transnational commercialisation and distribution through online platforms;
  • To increase public awareness in order to stimulate more interest in audiovisual projects, particularly through the promotion of events and festivals and development of film-making skills;
  • To promote the flexibility of new methods of distribution for the emergence of new business models.

 

About the Culture Sub-programme

The Culture Sub-programme is for the co-funding of projects in the cultural and creative sectors and all other types of artistic expression (excluding film and audiovisual projects exclusively, which are supported by the MEDIA sub-programme).

Eligible Entities

Projects eligible for Culture Sub-programme funding are the collective entities of the cultural and creative sectors (public or private, profit or non-profit-making). Entities wishing to be project leaders need to have been legal for at least 2 years prior to the date of submitting their application).

Partnerships can be established with entities from the following countries:

Note: Partnerships with non-EU countries are possible in accordance with the following:

  • They don't count as part of the minimum number of permitted partners
  • Expenditure by non-EU countries is not permitted
  • Costs do not exceed 30% of the project's value

Eligible Projects

Eligibility is given to non-profit cultural and creative projects.


The Culture sup-programme's priorities are as follows:

  • Help cultural and creative organisations operate in a transnational context (in Europe and beyond);
  • Create opportunities for artists' mobility and the distribution of their work;
  • To focus on activities that contribute to equipping the agents with the necessary skills and know-how to contribute to the strengthening of the sectors;
  • To support the distribution of literature (works of fiction);
  • To support the creation of new audiences (Audience Development) as a way of stimulating interest and improving people's access to culture;
